Our vision is for an Aotearoa in which everyone has equal access to audiovisual media. We believe that everyone in New Zealand should be able to access the news, stories and culture of the nation. The formation of the ANZPM (the merger between RNZ and TVNZ) has the opportunity to be developed in a way that provides access to everybody.

Over the past two years alone, we’ve increased captioning by 42% and audio description by 148%.

Currently, the biggest thing holding us back from having more CC and AD in more places is the ability of broadcaster platforms and channels being able to host what we create. To keep on growing, we need more platforms to be able to carry CC and AD – including streaming sites.

As such, in order to ensure that all viewers have access to ANZPM, Able’s recommendation is that the ANZPM Bill should include a requirement that all ANZPM channels and platforms, including those that exist and those yet to be created, are able to host captions and audio description.
