Resuming one month after the end of the first season, the new series establishes Victoria as a working mother, learning to balance her responsibilities as both parent and Queen. Prince Albert is still struggling to find a role for himself alongside his powerful wife as she returns to her duties, intent on proving that she can be both a mother and dutiful Queen.
Season two sees Jenna Coleman (Doctor Who) and Tom Hughes (The Game) reprise their roles as Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, as they face new challenges both at home and abroad. The ambitious drama series follows the early life of Queen Victoria, from the ascension to the throne at the tender age of 18, through to her courtship and marriage to Prince Albert.
Queen Victoria went on to rule for 63 years and was our longest serving monarch until she was overtaken by Elizabeth II on 9th September 2015.
Drawing on real-life events and the Queen’s own exhaustive diaries, Victoria paints a vivid portrait of her transformation from an impulsive 18-year-old to her early years as a wife, mother and head of a global empire.
A saga of interlocking circles, stretching from the upper echelons of the royal court to the below-stairs staff, this is a story of passionate affairs, power struggles and unrequited love. At the centre of which stands the new Queen - a strong, complex and willful woman who must somehow become an enduring icon.
With cinematic production values, stunning costumes and beautifully written scripts, Victoria is TV at its finest.
